HE-FARM Project

CIOP-PIB participates in an international project: Healthy environmental-friendly and resilient farm to fork (HE-FARM). The project is funded under HORIZON EUROPE.

General information

From lab to farm: a look at the transport of microbial pathogens:

How do pathogens and diseases enter a farm? Scientists are finding ways to trace and monitor the transport of microorganisms in order to learn about the channel and the microorganism. In this context, the EU-funded HE-FARM project will develop a methodology based on lab and field tests. The aim is to predict transport-channel biosecurity and increase maturity of several disruptive novel techs. Prototypes of novel technologies for biosecurity will also be developed and validated in operational environments like cow, pig and chicken farms, a slaughter and meat preparation plant and trucks. The project is in line with the EU’s Farm to Fork strategy for a fair and healthy food system.

CIOP-PIB’s contribution

CIOP-PIB is involved in several project tasks and work packages:

  • Setting up basis and procedures for biosecurity; technologies and assessment of actual state
  • Step function tests and transmission channels lab validation tests of techs
  • Validation and evaluation tests in farm, transport and industry
  • Communication, dissemination and exploitation
  • Risk, research and project management

Project consortium

The project consortium consists of 14 partners from 6 different countries. The project is coordinated by Universidad de Alcala (UAH) from Spain.

The project has received funding for 36 months, from 1 November 2022 to 31 October 2025.
