  • The use of VR techniques in computer-aided training for operators of portable chainsaws
mgr inż. MIESZKO WODZYŃSKI, dr inż. ANDRZEJ DĄBROWSKI

Portable chain saws are commonly used in Poland in construction, agriculture and domestic work, but are a source of serious injury because the chain can easily come into contact with the body of the operator. The article presents possibilities of supporting chainsaw operator training with the use of a virtual trainer built at CIOP-PIB. It assesses the influence of training programs and technical possibilities of computer equipment available on the market on the possibility of effective implementation of such a solution in Poland. The results of preliminary tests of human interaction with the virtual environment during the simulation of chainsaw operation were presented. The participants of the tests confirmed the advantages of the applied computer technology indicating: minor inconvenience and low level of stress (during use), high level of its acceptance and high possibility of replicating the real working environment.

The degree of fit of the clothes to the human body affects its thermal insulation. The determination of the total volume of air spaces underneath clothing by means of a 3D scanning technique can provide information useful in assessing the fit of clothing. The article presents the method of measuring the air spaces underneath clothing with the use of the aforementioned technique and discusses the relationship between the size of the clothing and the degree of its fit to the human body.
