Abstract

Development and pilot implementation of methods of assessing and shaping safety culture at the level of an individual and an organization in road transport

Project summary:

The aim of the task was to develop and implement a programme of shaping safety culture in road transport enterprises. Enterprises with various characteristics of road transport (transport of people and goods), size of enterprise, organization and hazards resulting from the specificity of work were selected for the pilot programme. The plan of implementing the programme of shaping safety culture was based on previously verified methodology implemented in production enterprises. Within the task the following took place: - initial safety culture and psychosocial working conditions in the enterprise were assessed, a plan of intervention was developed - workers were educated - corrections were done to increase safety culture in selected areas - actions were verified. Selected variables were assessed with methods from the following questionnaires: - KBZ questionnaire - ARD questionnaire - KBD questionnaire - Psychosocial Working Conditions questionnaire. Education materials were developed; their content and form were used and verified in practical training courses in previous stages of the task. The intervention included organizing and running interactive training of drivers, management, administration workers and maintenance workers. Training drivers involved the following subjects: - safety culture - drivers' psychology - stress and stress management - social communication and assertiveness.
